Writers Note; 30 January 2004

You can sometimes count on the Navy to screw-up a good thing !

I was informed by the Naval Aviation Historical group in Washinton DC that the
requirement for Fleet squadrons to submit a Historical Report (OPNAV Report
575-1) was suspended for a few years, starting in 1953. Thus, I’m unable to
collect and publish the squadron data for 1953. I was also told that there maybe
some records of SAR (Sea AIr Rescues) available, which would help complete
the history of HU-1’s activies in the Korean War. If there is anyone out there who
plans on visiting the DC area, and would act as my representative in some
research at the “Navy Yard”, please contact me. Respectfully,
